Supporting renewable energy integration through smart grids and sector coupling
MENALINKS is a regional programme driving the smart energy transition in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, and Türkiye. By promoting sector coupling, smart grid innovation, and system flexibility, MENALINKS supports the integration of renewable energy to help partner countries meet their national climate goals.
Accelerating the MENA energy transition through regional expertise and global collaboration
Funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Government and led by Guidehouse Germany GmbH, MENALINKS is a six-year initiative (2024–2029) designed to accelerate the energy transition in the MENA region. The programme addresses country-specific challenges through a holistic approach that combines technical assistance, policy and regulatory support, business model development, and capacity building.

Driving energy transformation through regional expertise and global collaboration
MENALINKS is implemented by a consortium of international and regional partners, including Fraunhofer, Elia Grid International, RENAC, the Islamic Development Bank, and RCREEE, alongside local institutions in each partner country. The programme focuses on unlocking the full potential of renewable energy by linking it with end-use sectors such as buildings, industry, and transport. It also supports access to climate finance and fosters cross-cutting knowledge transfer through a strong regional network.
MENALINKS empowers countries to tackle shared energy transition challenges—rising demand, untapped flexibility, and renewable integration—while advancing decarbonisation, security, and affordability.
Collaborating across borders to meet the demands of the energy transition
By collaborating with policymakers, grid operators, and regulators, MENALINKS delivers scalable and sustainable solutions that strengthen grid integration, enhance system operations, and boost flexibility. These efforts lay the groundwork for a resilient, low-carbon energy future across the MENA region—ensuring that national energy systems are equipped to meet the demands of the clean energy transition.
