Celebrating 40 Years of ANME: Advancing Tunisia’s Energy Transition

On 20–21 May 2026, the National Agency for Energy Management marked its 40th anniversary with a national conference in Tunis, where Riadh Bhar, Associate Director at Guidehouse Germany, represented the MENALINKS programme alongside public institutions, international partners, experts and private‑sector stakeholders. The conference reflected on the agency’s role since its establishment in 1985 and on priorities for the next phase of Tunisia’s energy transition.

Four decades of progress
Over the past 40 years, the National Agency for Energy Management has contributed to advancing energy efficiency, supporting renewable energy deployment, and strengthening policy and institutional frameworks. The anniversary provided space to review these achievements while addressing reform, investment, and implementation needs linked to national energy and climate objectives.

Why this matters for MENALINKS
For the MENALINKS programme, the anniversary underlines the importance of strong institutions, long-term cooperation, and practical approaches to accelerating renewable energy integration. Exchanges such as this conference help reinforce dialogue on system flexibility, enabling environments, and solutions that link renewable energy development with broader sector transformation.

Regional cooperation
The conference also reaffirmed the value of regional and international cooperation in supporting national energy transitions across the Middle East and North Africa region. MENALINKS remains committed to fostering knowledge exchange and technical dialogue to support implementable clean energy pathways in Tunisia and beyond.
