Jordan’s National Expert Committee convenes for the first time to support MENALINKS implementation

Bringing key stakeholders together  

The committee brings together experts and representatives from key national institutions, including MEMR, the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO), Irbid District Electricity Company (IDECO), Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO), the Jordan Industrial Estates Company (JIEC), and the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI). This diverse group ensures broad sectoral representation and facilitates alignment across stakeholder groups.  

Setting the foundation for collaboration 

During the first meeting, the MENALINKS team presented the aim, function, and planned activities of the NEC. A detailed industrial flexibility working plan was shared and discussed with members, laying the groundwork for future collaboration. The workplan includes eight main activities: assessment of achievable potential of Jordanian industrial flexibility; cost benefit analysis (CBA) of Jordanian industrial flexibility; cross-sectoral and long-term analysis; policy and regulation for activating industrial flexibility; pre-feasibility studies to implement industrial flexibility in Jordan; financing assistance; capacity building, training and study tours; stakeholder engagement and outreach. 

The committee will play an important role during the implementation of the programme and will also be invited to contribute to communication and dissemination activities. 

Looking ahead 

The Jordan NEC will continue to meet regularly, providing guidance and feedback on programme activities. Future sessions will focus on reviewing progress, refining strategies, and supporting outreach efforts to ensure inclusive and impactful implementation.
