MENALINKS and the Jordan Industrial Estates Company join forces to advance industrial flexibility in Jordan
On 18 September 2024, the MENALINKS programme signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jordan Industrial Estates Company (JIEC) in Amman, marking a significant step towards enhancing industrial flexibility and sector coupling in Jordan.
The MoU establishes a framework for joint efforts to assess flexibility solutions in Jordan’s industrial sector. Its goals reflect MENALINKS’ commitment to supporting local stakeholders and driving sector coupling innovation. By collaborating with JIEC, MENALINKS will be able to have meaningful exchanges with industries to learn about their needs, challenges, and opportunities to be active actors in the power market.
The agreement was formalised during a meeting between Dr. Christian Nabe, Programme Director of MENALINKS, and Omar Jwaid, Director General of JIEC. MENALINKS’s country partner in Jordan, the Royal Scientific Society-National Energy Research Centre (RSS-NERC) facilitated the meeting.
The signing ceremony was followed by a productive working session involving key team members of the MENALINKS programme with JIEC. Together, they outlined the scope of collaboration and explored how both parties can work together to promote industrial flexibility in Jordan. Flexibility solutions can enable a larger integration of renewable energy and support the development of a more sustainable industrial sector in Jordan.
