MENALINKS launches strategic academic partnership in Tunisia to advance renewable energy education

The MENALINKS programme is pleased to announce the signing of its first academic cooperation agreement with the National Engineering School of Monastir (ENIM) in Tunisia. This milestone marks the beginning of a series of university partnerships designed to strengthen renewable energy education and capacity building across the MENA region.

Under this agreement, ENIM’s Energy Engineering Department will integrate eLearning courses developed by Renewables Academy (RENAC), key partner for capacity building in MENALINKS, into its academic curriculum. These courses will provide students with access to high-quality, practice-oriented content focused on renewable energy technologies, smart grids, and sector coupling. The collaboration aims to equip future engineers with the technical knowledge and skills needed to lead the region’s energy transition.

This initiative is part of MENALINKS’ broader strategy to accelerate renewable energy integration and sector coupling in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, and Türkiye. By embedding RENAC’s training modules into university programmes, MENALINKS fosters long-term institutional capacity and supports the development of a skilled workforce capable of addressing the region’s energy challenges.

The partnership with ENIM is particularly significant given Tunisia’s growing focus on decentralised energy solutions and battery energy storage systems (BESS). MENALINKS has already conducted a  needs assessment and regulatory gap analysis in Tunisia and is working closely with national stakeholders—including the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy (MIME), the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG), and the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME) — to support the country’s national energy strategies towards this end.

Kicking off  MENALINKS’ educational workstream with the National Engineering School of Monastir

The National Engineering School of Monastir (ENIM) was selected as MENALINKS’ inaugural university partner due to its strong academic reputation and strategic alignment with the programme’s goals. Established in 1987 and located in eastern Tunisia, ENIM is part of the University of Monastir and hosts a dedicated Energy Engineering Department—making it an ideal candidate for integrating renewable energy-focused digital training into its curriculum. The school’s multilingual instruction in Arabic, French, and English supports regional and international collaboration, while its commitment to technical excellence and innovation reflects MENALINKS’ mission to build institutional capacity for the energy transition. ENIM’s proactive engagement in partnerships and its growing student and faculty base further reinforce its role as a catalyst for developing the next generation of renewable energy professionals in Tunisia and beyond.

The partnership with ENIM is the first of five university collaborations planned under MENALINKS. Similar agreements are currently being finalised with institutions in MENALINKS partner countries. These partnerships will collectively support the creation of a regional knowledge base and foster cross-border cooperation in renewable energy education.

MENALINKS invites stakeholders from academia, energy, and climate sectors to engage with the programme and explore opportunities for collaboration. For more information, reach out directly to MENALINKS
