Finance Landscape Report
The MENALINKS programme (2023–2029), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy under the International Climate Initiative (IKI), enables the integration of renewable energy through supporting the implementation of sector coupling and smart grid solutions in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, and Türkiye. The programme addresses regulatory, technical, financial, and knowledge barriers to accelerate the energy transition in fossil-fuel dominated systems with high renewable energy potential.
The MENALINKS finance workstream aims to facilitate investments in these focus areas. While MENALINKS does not provide direct financial assistance, it enhances transparency on investment conditions, supports the removal of investment barriers, and facilitates connections among investors, developers, and financial institutions.
This report provides a comprehensive analysis of existing financial programmes, facilities and initiatives that may be relevant for smart grid and sector coupling projects in the MENALINKS focus countries, with a focus on concessional finance and the evolving role of commercial finance in the MENA region.
